FireflyCall FREE Until 9/22/09
08.13.09
End of summer blowout?
You could say that. We kind of got a late start this season. So in order to get the word out, and FireflyCall onto more iPhones, we are offing this promo.
Let us be clear:
- FireflyCall will not teleport fireflies from their normal habitats. So if you are anywhere west of Kansas in North America, for example, and wondering why you are not covered in fireflies as soon as you launch the app, it is because fireflies do not hang out in your 'hood.
- You must have patience, basic observational skills, and be the kind of person who is thrilled to learn more about the natural world in order to be successful at luring male fireflies and getting females to reveal their locations.
FireflyCall v1.1 Update
07.20.09
Upgrade for these improved features:
- “New” button removed based on user feedback
- “Fly” Screen now stays in “Flash On” mode as long as user holds finger on screen, allowing more accurate mimicry of various firefly species
- “Shake to Flash” removed as newly published research from Dr. Sara Lewis at Tufts University indicates that being able to control the length of flash is critical to speaking accurate firefly
Research Backs Us Up
07.09.09
Since releasing FireflyCall, a slew of articles and research have been published about fireflies – all of it fascinating. The most useful to our users is probably the “Firefly Flash Pattern Chart” published by the Museum of Science in Boston.
Download the chart here.
Visit the Museum of Science's page that explains how to use the chart and get involved with their project, if you love the firefly as much as we do.
Carl Zimmer has a piece in the NYT with Dr. Sarah Lewis. Lots of great info, audio, and links within article. Check it out!
